Mutations in HBV viral genome can interfere with the genetic detection of the virus. Our diagnostic technology based on QD barcodes was successfully applied to overcome this limitation. Viral detection was performed by simultaneously looking at multiple regions of the viral genome, therefore reducing the probability that a mutation in one of the regions will interfere with the probe binding. This approach successfully increased clinical sensitivity of detection of HBV virus in patient samples.
